The AO Broadband Project is a transformative high-speed fiber-optic initiative bringing world-class internet to four remote northern Manitoba communities. Backed by over $49.7 million from the federal government and $6 million from Indigenous Services Canada, the project seeks an additional $10–$20 million from the Province of Manitoba to ensure completion and long-term sustainability.

This network will connect AO communities directly to the global internet backbone, providing virtually unlimited capacity for growth with a lifespan of up to 75 years. It will deliver critical access to telemedicine, online education, economic opportunities, and more—advancing Indigenous self-determination and improving quality of life.

The AO project supports Manitoba’s goals to expand northern infrastructure, foster economic reconciliation, and reduce urban healthcare strain. It also offers Manitoba exclusive access to dedicated fiber capacity, cutting travel and communication costs for provincial ministries. With strong federal and provincial collaboration, the AO Broadband Project promises a connected, resilient future for northern Manitobans.
